What is the Carnivore Diet?

A carnivore diet is a diet made of animal foods exclusively. That means we meet all our nutritional needs without vegetables and fibrous plant foods.

It is a phenomenal approach for rapid fat loss, healing autoimmune conditions, depression, anxiety, serious digestive disturbances, and more. (1, 2, 3, 4)

Read our carnivore diet success stories, and you’ll see the results speak for themselves.

No one has to follow a strict carnivorous approach for the rest of their life if they don’t want to. Periods of carnivory can be beneficial as quick health resets to help you learn which foods are optimal for you and which may be causing more harm than good.

Our post What to Eat on a Carnivore Diet breaks down the variety of foods available from the animal kingdom. You might be surprised to know that most people don’t feel any restriction or lack of variety once they get in the groove of carnivore cooking.

It takes time and practice, of course. Our Carnivore Diet Food List will help you out when you first begin.

Desserts on Carnivore Diet?

Carnivore dieters eat a lot of red meat, eggs, fish, chicken, pork, and organ meats

What do carnivores eat for dessert?

Honestly, most of them don’t eat any dessert. Others might have a spoonful of raw heavy cream or a glass of raw milk when they want a treat.

Oddly, no one seems to miss sweet recipes too much. It’s rarely a reason for people to stop the diet.

Over time, our taste buds adjust, and more often than not, the obvious benefits of carnivory outweigh any hankerings for sugar. Fatty animal meat and fat are incredibly satiating. It’s quite an eye-opening experience to fuel on these foods exclusively.

Cake, even carnivore cake, shouldn’t be eaten every day, but once in a while (probably) won’t hurt your progress. When a special occasion comes along and makes you wish for a carnivore friendly dessert, try this one!

Easy Carnivore Cake Recipe

Have you noticed all carnivore diet recipes are ridiculously easy? That’s just one of the benefits of carnivore-style cooking.

This animal based dessert calls for 5 ingredients and 10 minutes of prep work. Think you can handle that? Here’s how to whip up this tasty dessert after a nice carnivore dinner.

What you need:

  • Eggs
  • Sweetener, optional
  • Vanilla extract, optional
  • Whole milk, raw if possible
  • Butter

Gather the ingredients and preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

Beat eggs on high in a large bowl for up to 5 minutes, until thickened.

Gradually add the sweetener, continue mixing until light and fluffy. Mix in vanilla.

In a small saucepan, heat milk and butter for about 2 minutes over medium heat, just until butter melts.

Slowly add to eggs, beat until combined.

A square glass containing cake batter.

Pour unit a greased 8×8-inch (20×20-cm) baking dish. Bake for 40 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool before serving.

All this beating creates a light and fluffy cake. The texture reminds me of sponge cake while the flavor is similar to flan.

With only 5 ingredients, this carnivore cake certainly does the job. There is no mistake, it’s a real cake! However, it’s not overly decadent or indulgent.

The recipe is undoubtedly animal based and, if made with a keto sweetener, is the perfect addition to your collection of keto carnivore recipes!

Let’s discuss more options for sweetening this almost no carb dessert.

Honey on a Carnivore Diet

Some people do well by adding honey on a carnivore diet.

Carbs are not inherently bad; they are a tool for use in the proper context. Consider your priorities and goals; make the choice that is right for you.

Honey is great food with many nutritional benefits (5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10) and valuable when used appropriately. Per tablespoon (21 g) of honey, there are 17 g carbohydrate, 3.5 g water, 0 g protein, and 0 g fat. (11)

White Oak Pastures has incredible wildflower honey, so add that to your cart next time you order grass-fed, regenerative meats online!

Suppose this is a baffling topic, and you want some help making a nutrition plan and learning when and how to add carnivore carbs like honey and raw milk. In that case, we’re happy to take a look at your specific situation and offer personalized feedback in our membership forum or a private coaching session.

Keto Carnivore & Strict Carnivore Options

You might want fat loss or body composition improvements and don’t need to gain weight on a carnivore diet. In this case, opt for a keto sweetener instead of honey.

Strict carnivore dieters may find the combination of eggs, milk, and butter to be satisfying enough or want to add just the vanilla extract for a bit of additional flavor.

I love My Sweet Keto’s savory Carnivore Cake. Not only is it beautiful but also a great way to celebrate with something special while not involving any sweet flavors. If you’re not ready to experiment with honey or a keto sweetener and like savory recipes, try her idea instead!

    1. But was it nice?

I thought it might be something like that, but what I would want to know is if it satisfied the taste buds?

I like this cake with some cream cheese icing, or even just a sprinkle of powdered monk fruit, but I wanted to mix this up a bit. I added 2 scoops (about a tablespoon, I think) or Dr. Berg’s lemon electrolyte. I could have used a bit more I think, but–LEMON CAKE.

I got the idea from a lemon mug cake during an egg fast. This was much better than the mug cake.

  2. Can I use heavy cream instead of whole milk? I’ve made this twice as a lax carnivore but I want to try being more strict and raw milk isn’t sold in my area.

  3. This looks so good! I have a dairy allergy and was wondering if anyone has tried this with full fat coconut milk?

    1. Great question Jeanette! I’d like to hear a response about that too. Usually, coconut milk and dairy milk are interchangeable, but I haven’t tested the substitution in this specific recipe. Please let me know your results if you try it!

  4. Can I use heavy cream instead of whole milk? Or even some heavy cream and almond milk (not carnivore but close enough for me)?

  5. I tried this out and mine came out more like flan. Kinda custardy and eggy tasting. Did I do something wrong? I beat it for 5 mins like instructed and when I added the milk mixture I beat it for about another 2 mins then baked.

    1. Hi Daniela, Thanks for trying my recipe and leaving a comment about your experience. I suggest you keep in mind this is a flourless cake. Furthermore, since the ingredients are only milk, eggs, sweetener, butter, and vanilla, it will be understandably reminiscent of flan and have an “eggy” taste. If you do ok with carbs, you might want to try it again with maple syrup as the sweetener. That will give it a different flavor and make it less eggy. Hope this helps!

  6. I’m looking for a carnivore, gluten free, chocolate free recipe to make a Buche de Noel and I’m liking this recipe.

Do you think that this recipe creates a cake soft enough and will allow me to roll it to create the yule log?

I’d fill it with some sort of white chocolate buttercream. Because of oxalates I don’t eat chocolate-chocolate.

If you think I’m on to a great idea what tweaks might you make? How thick might you make it? Would you use proportions for 2x or 3x or might the 1x ration make a nice sized log?

    1. I haven’t made that substitution myself, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work well enough. You could also try the same amount of coconut milk, which is low oxalate and may be more suitable.

  7. I don’t understand the nutritional information. 90 calories from fat, 48 from carbs, and 16 frim protein, ads up to (by my calculations) 154, not 109. But, as we all (except mainstream doctors!) know, calories don’t count!

    1. You have an interesting point here Allen. The calculations are automatically generated in the recipe card (hence the disclaimer below them). I’ll look into this further and see if I can adjust the calculation to be more accurate. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

Hi!! Thank you for posting! I was wondering how much sweeter — for example, Erythritol sweetener or stevia — you would add? And does the cake turn out in a consistency that would taste good with some sort of carnivore frosting (something I would have to research)? Thank you!!

  9. Hi there – recipe looks great but I don’t use milk at all (only whipping cream) and wondered if this recipe would work using half and half instead of milk? Thanks.
