Ingredients You Need

Ingredients for parmesan chicken wings arranged on a table:.
  • Chicken wings: Choose high-quality wings for the best flavor. Use fresh or frozen chicken wings for this recipe.
  • Butter: Melts into the wings and serves as the foundation for the delightful crust. It also helps the other ingredients stick.ย
  • Parmesan cheese: Adds a rich, savory flavor and helps create a beautifully browned, cheesy crust. I recommend using freshly and finely shredded Parmesan cheese because it crisps and coats more evenly.
  • Parsley: Fresh parsley adds a pop of color and a subtle savory flavor that complements the other ingredients perfectly.
  • Salt and ground black pepper: These staples enhance the overall seasoning.

Step-By-Step Instructions

In just a little less than an hour, youโ€™ll have a batch of fresh-off-the-oven parmesan chicken wings ready to serve. Follow the 4 simple steps below and youโ€™re guaranteed to make crispy, perfectly-baked wings!

Step 1: Preheat the oven

Set the oven to 400 F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Step 2: Make the coating

Use a shallow oven-safe dish to melt the butter while the oven warms up. Alternatively, melt in a saucepan over low-heat on the stovetop. In a bowl, mix Parmesan, parsley, salt, and pepper.

Step 3: Dip and roll

Dip each wing in melted butter, then roll in the cheese and herb mixture. Arrange the coated wings on the prepared baking sheet.

Step 4: Bake

Let them bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes until they turn golden and crispy. Once out of the oven, cool briefly and serve warm.

Substitutions

  • Chicken wings: Use chicken drumettes or boneless chicken tenders for a similar result. For a vegetarian option, try cauliflower florets instead.
  • Butter: Use olive oil for a lighter option or ghee for a nuttier flavor. For a dairy-free version, try vegan butter or avocado oil.
  • Parmesan cheese: If you prefer to use an alternative, try Pecorino Romano for a similar sharp, salty flavor.
  • Parsley: Substitute with dried parsley for a burst of herbaceous goodness. Chives also work great for a slightly different herb flavor.

Expert Tips

  • Air fryer? Have an air fryer you love to use? You can make Keto Air Fryer Chicken Wings too!
  • Pat the wings dry: Use paper towels to remove excess moisture from the wings before baking to make sure they turn out extra crispy.
  • Mix and match herbs: Use what you have on hand. Try fresh basil, thyme, oregano, rosemary, cilantro, dill, sage, and even an Italian herb blend are all ideal options. This recipe is very forgiving!
  • Make DIY blends: DIY blends like homemade ranch seasoning are great for rubbing over the wings for extra flavor.
  • Donโ€™t overcrowd: Spread the wings in a single layer with space between them on the baking sheet to help them crisp up evenly.
  • Add parmesan in stages: Sprinkle the cheese before and after baking for layers of cheesy flavor and texture.
  • Taste and adjust: Adjust the salt carefully since Parmesan is already naturally salty. Do a taste test first before adding more.

How to Store This Recipe

Transfer leftover wings into an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 4 days, or in the freezer for up to 2 weeks. To reheat, warm them in the oven or airfryer. I donโ€™t recommend reheating in the microwave as they will lose their crispiness.

What to Serve with Parmesan Chicken Wings

Parmesan chicken wings make a great stand-alone dish, but are equally amazing paired with sides. Dip it in delicious cheddar and bacon dip, or enjoy with a side of cauliflower mash, beer cheese soup, or coconut cream pumpkin soup

If you want a heartier meal, pair the wings with a soup and some veggie sides like zucchini noodles, coleslaw, cheesy broccoli casserole, or cauliflower mushroom risotto. Who can say no?

I doubled the batch on this and I’m happy I did! They were just as delicious the next day as my snack as they were the night of. Perfect to bump up my protein.

I made these in the air fryer and used pecorino (it’s my preference to parmesan) and they were outstanding! Best wings I’ve had in a while. I could’ve easily eaten a whole extra pound!

Wings are my kid’s favorite food. He would eat them every day if he could. This was such a great idea that I decided to make them for him when he came over for dinner last night. I made a garlic butter mixture to dip the wings in, but followed the rest of the recipe as is. The were delicious! Thanks for the great recipe idea.

    1. I don’t see why not but I don’t have an air fryer myself so can’t speak to the specific process. I suggest looking up how to adapt oven baked recipes to the air fryer to get an idea of cooking time.

I just made this recipe and it tasted great. The parm does get browned though at 350 for an hour and the skin isn’t crispy, but it still tasted great. I added a tsp of garlic powder and might use granulated garlic next time. Also thinking about baking the wings first at 400 to get crispy and then use rest of ingredients as a tossing sauce after baking. Since I’m carnivore, I’m loving this.
